What's on My Nightstand + A Peek Inside My Bedroom

At the end of the day, I like to take off ALL my……..jewelry - what were you thinking? Get your head out of the gutter. 😂

I actually never sleep in my jewelry; it bothers me way too much. And it is better for your jewelry if you don’t sleep in it - so that’s a bonus.

Right now I have some of my Bird’s Tail pieces that I wear on the daily in a little bedside dish. All of my other jewelry gets stored in my closet where I have a special drawer dedicated to just my jewelry. I am a jewelry designer after all, so it’s a necessity - right? I will definitely write a future blog post and give you a tour! In the mean time, check out the best way to store your jewelry in order to keep it looking new and avoid tangled messes.

After the jewelry is off - I treat myself to a nightly skin care and wellness routine. I am currently using Beauty Counter thanks to my friend, Kristin George. Beauty Counter makes all natural, clean beauty products and this is my first time trying their skin care line. I admit that I was very skeptical at first, but I am really liking some of these products. Maybe a post on my skin care routine is in the future too! But, I digress….

*None of these products are sponsored - these are my honest, unbiased opinions.

on my nightstand:

Once I’m done washing my face, moisturizing and brushing my teeth, I hop into bed and apply a little moisturizer to my hands, elbows and feet. Right now, I am loving Trader Joe’s Hand Cream. Wisconsin winters are really tough on skin, so I find this this stuff really helps my dry/cracked skin…especially after so much hand washing with the pandemic.

Next I put DoTerra’s Deep Blue on my neck, jaw and shoulders (and any other places that I am feeling pain). This stuff is amazing - it has a cooling effect that melts the tension away.

Finally - I get to reach for that book - the one I’m reading right now is Know My Name by Chanel Miller - it’s a heart wrenching memoir about the author’s life after being sexually assaulted. It’s quite powerful.

But before I start reading, I put a few drops of CBD oil under my tongue to help me sleep. I am currently using WI Hemp Scientific CBD Oil - but I just learned that it is discontinued! I am also a fan of Beyond Full Spectrum CBD Oil too.

I have never been a great sleeper; my mind races too much and tends to think of the most random things that I need to do or forgot to do (also why I keep a journal and pen in my bedside drawer - sometime I need to write that chatter down!). And this routine along with focusing on my breath and using my meditation practice has helped alleviate some of my sleeping issues. That’s not to say that I sleep soundly every night, but for the most part I do - the dried lavender also helps; it smells amazing.

On His nightstand:

My husband, John, is a little more low maintenance - ok - a lot more low maintenance!😂

We typically read in bed together, so he always has a book on his bedside table, along with fresh greenery. Do you think he put it there? Nope. He would probably have nothing but the book and our Alexa Show if I didn’t try to style it up a little.

Speaking of the Alexa - we use this device to play music, hear the news and weather and set our morning alarm; you can wake up to almost anything you want: music, meditation, the news….

We are also in love with this Crate&Barrel nightstand. It has builtin USB ports and an outlet built into the top drawer, so you don’t see any of the cords. Genius.

One thing John and I do have in common with our nightly routine is that he also takes his ring and Essential Oil Bracelet off before bed. Apparently he doesn’t like to sleep in his jewelry either. Or I trained him well that it’s better for your jewelry not to!

A peak inside our bedroom:

We have been living under construction for almost two years now! Yep - that’s right - two years 😜. However, our bedroom is one of the rooms that is about 95% done. We still need some artwork above the bed and maybe an additional cozy throw at the foot of the bed, along with some touch-up paint and a few other construction related items, but it has become a sanctuary for us.

With three kids, especially three kids who are HOME ALL OF THE TIME! We need a place to escape, and this space is definitely serving that need. Check out more about our home over on Instagram at A HOME WE MADE. Follow along as John and I turn the house we bought two years ago, into our dream home!
