Let’s Make HER-Story!
I am so giddy over this new collection! HER-Story collection is a culmination of womanhood, artistry, motherhood, entrepreneurship and so much more!
Reflecting back on why I started Bird’s Tail I am reminded of how far this little business has come, and our newest collection (which we’ll dive deeper into in a minute) gently nudges me to look back at the story that brought us to this moment together. Sometimes looking backwards is the only way to begin moving forward. For me, looking back brings up a lot of challenging memories, but more importantly it also brings up a lot of hope.
It’s the story about my past, my struggle with health and the dangers of “perfection.” It’s the story of a high school English teacher, turned mother, designer, and yogi.
Saying goodbye to hustle culture.
In the past, I took on too much — as many women do. I worried about EVERYTHING. I was saying “yes” to too many things (English Department Chair, Cross Country Coach, school newspaper advisor, teaching honors writing courses, and most importantly I was a new mom!).
I was exhausted.
And I got sick.
This venture to “do all the things” broke me down both mentally and physically.
Enter Bird’s Tail.
In the infancy of Bird’s Tail I created a custom collection of hand-stamped leaves with initials for each individual woman who was purchasing. Honestly, as Bird’s Tail has grown I feel like I’ve lost touch with that part of my love for custom design: meaning each piece is unique to the woman who wears it.
Every woman’s life’s tale is a unique, individual and custom story. I want to share those stories — those meaningful moments, memorable dates, and daily reminders of inspiration.
So, It only made sense to affectionately call the newest Bird’s Tail collection HER-story.
As women, we juggle so many roles and responsibilities. We’re daughters, moms, wives, sisters, friends, caretakers and so much more. We deserve to wear one-of-a-kind pieces that remind us of how much we have been through and experienced.
Think about a bracelet or earrings or necklace that you wear every day. Think about all the life experiences, conversations, events, laughter and tears that piece has been through with you.
It’s all a part of your individual HER-story.
The HER-story collection is a combination of custom, hand-stamped bars and disc necklaces that can be customized how you’d like the piece to look and what you’d like it to represent. Maybe you’re gifting yourself a piece to mark a birthday, birth of a child, or a promotion at work. Perhaps you have a specific word that reminds you of your daily purpose or to stay positive — we can put that beautiful word on your necklace as an everyday reminder.
These are pieces you’ll wear close to your heart or hands to remember your why. Just a gentle reminder of your reasons to get out of bed in the morning. Pieces that connect you to the important people and memories in your life.
My hope is that these Bird’s Tail pieces will keep you dreaming for years to come.
My story is what developed Bird’s Tail Designs. It’s a story of passion, support and eventually, defeat over the physical burdens and drive to perfection that once took over my life. Each piece of jewelry I make is a story for women who are going through, have gone through, or face challenges in their lives. Together, we empower and support each other to rise above our challenges.
My hope is that the HER-story pieces will be passed from woman-to-woman throughout the generations and will tell the ‘her’story of the women who wear them.
